Our Director: Andrei Vassiliev

Andrei Vassiliev was born on January 1979. He rose to fame as a renowned Principal Classical Dancer, performing with prestigious dance companies in Europe and the United States. Mr. Vassiliev has worked with some of the best choreographers of the 21st Century including: John Neumeier, Uwe Scholz, Jiri Kilian, and William Forsythe.

 

Mr. Vassiliev has also traveled extensively as a guest Principal Guest Artist in Japan, Italy, Amsterdam, Denmark, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, London, and the USA.

Career Timeline

1989 as a young protégé full of potential and a promising future, Mr. Vassiliev began training in one of the most prestigious ballet schools in Russia, the Perm Academy Ballet School.

 

1997 Mr. Vassiliev was awarded the 1st prize placement in one of the biggest junior competitions in the world, the “Prix de Lausanne” in Switzerland.  After that, he studied with the legendary dancer and teacher Anatoli Nisnevich, who was the former student of Alexander Pushkin and partner of legendary ballerina, Natalia Makarova. Soon after, Mr. Vassiliev became a principal dancer with the Russian Opera and Ballet Theater.

 

1999  Mr. Vassiliev was invited to Germany to work with the Hamburg Ballet and Leipziger Ballet.  There, he was exposed to new works, style and choreography. His repertoire for his time in Germany includes:

Sinfonietta, Symphony in D (Jiri Kilian) 

In the Middle Somewhat Elevated (William Forsythe) 

Hamlet,  La Dame aux Camelias & Rite of Spring  (John Neumeier)

Rachmaninov Piano Concerto, Mozart - The Great Mass, Siebte Sinfonie, Prokofieve & America  (Uwe Scholz)

 

2001  Mr. Vassiliev was extended an invitation to join the English National Ballet in London, England. He performed as a Principal Dance Artist in various ballets including:  Sleeping Beatty, Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Paquita, Chopeniana, La Sylphide, Le Spectre de la Rose & Flower Festival in Genzano

 

In addition, Mr. Vassiliev received invitations to perform around the world as a guest principal dancer. These include: The 14th International Festival in Kazan, Russia: A Celebration of Rudolf Nureyev’s work; Celebration of the Arts Gala in Verona, Italy; and Evening of Stars Gala in Tokyo, Japan.

 

2004  Mr. Vassiliev relocated to the USA and began to work with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Company in Seattle, Washington.

1st Prize - Prix de Lausanne 1997

The following year, Mr. Vassiliev became Co/Founder /Artistic Director of the National Ballet Academy  of Denver, Colorado.
Over a decade he established himself as a teacher and choreographer. Achieving the Best Teacher Award in by YAGP in 2008 and 2010.

He led his student’s to win top prizes in prestigious competitions such as, YAGP, Denver Ballet Guild Competitions, and International Tanzfestival Berlin- in Berlin, Germany. His student went on to receive invitations and earned contracts to professional companies in the United State and abroad.

Mr. Vassiliev, along with his extensive knowledge and decades of experience, has developed a teaching curriculum, focusing on Vaganova, Balanchine, and English styles of ballet techniques. This high level of exposure provides him with a unique understanding of how to conduct and structure the ballet class. His unique approach to teaching has garnered Mr. Vassiliev was invited to: Brazil, Japan, Russia, China, Venezuela, Columbia, Hong Kong, Spain, Portugal, Paraguay and Argentina as a guest teacher.

In 2014 Mr. Vassiliev resides in New York City as the CEO/Founder/Artistic Director of Vassiliev Academy of Classical Ballet.

In 2016 he started to collaborating with Latinoamerica Baila scholarship program, it’s to give the opportunities for Latin American students experience life classes with Mr. Vassiliev in they’re own countries and possibilities to get a scholarship to come to VACB to New York City.

He has been named outstanding and honorary figure in Paraguay and in many Argentine provinces through the Program “Latinoamerica Baila”

In June 29th , 2017 in New York City was new creation “ Falling Angel” is a new show based on the life and a ballet career of 20 year Mr. Andrei Vassiliev with numerous stars and his friends from all over the world.

Andrei Vassiliev has been invited as an international figure star in the tribute to 9/11 to be held in New York on September 11th

2018 as well that year Mr. Vassiliev was invited to preformed in International Gala of Starts in Toronto (Canada) with Erica Cornejo.

In 2019 Mr. Vassiliev was featured as a guest star in a show Tango Nuevo Cabaret in Argentina Buenos Aires in Teatro Colised.
