Our Director: Andrei Vassiliev
Andrei Vassiliev was born on January 1979. He rose to fame as a renowned Principal Classical Dancer, performing with prestigious dance companies in Europe and the United States. Mr. Vassiliev has worked with some of the best choreographers of the 21st Century including: John Neumeier, Uwe Scholz, Jiri Kilian, and William Forsythe.
Mr. Vassiliev has also traveled extensively as a guest Principal Guest Artist in Japan, Italy, Amsterdam, Denmark, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, London, and the USA.
Career Timeline
1989 as a young protégé full of potential and a promising future, Mr. Vassiliev began training in one of the most prestigious ballet schools in Russia, the Perm Academy Ballet School.
1997 Mr. Vassiliev was awarded the 1st prize placement in one of the biggest junior competitions in the world, the “Prix de Lausanne” in Switzerland. After that, he studied with the legendary dancer and teacher Anatoli Nisnevich, who was the former student of Alexander Pushkin and partner of legendary ballerina, Natalia Makarova. Soon after, Mr. Vassiliev became a principal dancer with the Russian Opera and Ballet Theater.
1999 Mr. Vassiliev was invited to Germany to work with the Hamburg Ballet and Leipziger Ballet. There, he was exposed to new works, style and choreography. His repertoire for his time in Germany includes:
Sinfonietta, Symphony in D (Jiri Kilian)
In the Middle Somewhat Elevated (William Forsythe)
Hamlet, La Dame aux Camelias & Rite of Spring (John Neumeier)
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto, Mozart - The Great Mass, Siebte Sinfonie, Prokofieve & America (Uwe Scholz)
2001 Mr. Vassiliev was extended an invitation to join the English National Ballet in London, England. He performed as a Principal Dance Artist in various ballets including: Sleeping Beatty, Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Paquita, Chopeniana, La Sylphide, Le Spectre de la Rose & Flower Festival in Genzano
In addition, Mr. Vassiliev received invitations to perform around the world as a guest principal dancer. These include: The 14th International Festival in Kazan, Russia: A Celebration of Rudolf Nureyev’s work; Celebration of the Arts Gala in Verona, Italy; and Evening of Stars Gala in Tokyo, Japan.
2004 Mr. Vassiliev relocated to the USA and began to work with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Company in Seattle, Washington.
